ENTERPRISE DITCH DESIGN PROJECT

The Enterprise Ditch is located near Chromo, Colorado in Southern Archuleta County and diverts decreed irrigation water from the Navajo River. Ditch company representatives approached WEP and requested assistance in improving the diversion and measurement structures of the Enterprise Ditch. WEP has funding from a Bureau of Reclamation Cooperative Watershed Management grant that Trout Unlimited sub awarded to WEP. A deliverable of this grant is to develop conceptual engineered designs and construction cost estimates for projects of this type. Additional funding will need to be obtained for higher level designs and construction.

All about the Enterprise Ditch Design Project

The Enterprise Ditch Design is intended to be a multi-benefit project that will benefit the water users as well as the aquatic ecosystem of the Navajo River. Multi-benefit aspects include improved water diversion efficiency, reduced disturbance to the Navajo channel, and decreased sedimentation which negatively impacts aquatic life.

Public benefits include improved water measurement and diversion efficiency, resulting in improved hydrologic conditions for the Navajo River and downstream water users. Local agricultural producers provide an enormous public benefit through food production as well as retaining open spaces, fish/wildlife habitat, and pastoral landscapes that we all enjoy. While projects of this type may occur on private lands, agricultural practices are for the cultivation of crops and animals, with significant public benefit to the local and regional economy.

Budget: $253,093.00

WEP is actively pursuing additional funding needed to complete this project’s design phase.
